Dusty Owens (6/26/1983-6/27/2004) died in a car accident in the early morning hours of June 27, 2004. The day after he turned 21 years old. He lost control of his car and ran off into Cordell Hull Lake on Lakeside Drive, Defeated, Tennessee. Everyone was stunned by his death. This site is in memory of the Dusty I knew and miss so much!

I was 18 years old when I first met Dusty. He was a tall, blonde guy who was always laughing and joking around. He was around 17 at the time. He was friends with my cousin, Dave. I used to spend a lot of time at Dave's house. One night Dave had some friends over and I was there too. I think it was in October of 2000, and we decided to go out and burn some tires. So after a bunch of us got back from that, another friend of mine, Daniel, told us that someone had burnt a bunch of tires on Friendship Hollow Road. So me and Dusty got in his car and went to see them for some reason. Somehow we ended up in Willete, checking out Halloween decorations. Dusty spotted this strobe light flashing out from under this satalite dish that was turned upside down to look like a UFO. He decided he wanted it, so he pulled his car up in front of the house, left the car in drive and turned it off, then he took off his shirt for me to hold over the interior light so no one would see it. Then he crawled up the driveway and reached under the satalite dish and grabbed the strobe light and then he ran back to the car. He handed me the strobe light and tried to start the car, but he left it in drive so it wouldn't start. Me and Dusty both were panicking for a minute until he realized what he'd done, then he put it in park and started it up, put it back in drive and we drove off. On the way back to Dave's house, me and Dusty came up with a story to tell everyone else. He said we'd tell them that we had gotten shot at trying to get the strobe light. When we got back to Dave's house, that's what we told them, too. He told me not to tell them any different, and I never did. Everytime since then that I have told that story, until now, I have told it just like we told it that night!

Dixie Outfitters

Dusty was one-of-a-kind. He never met a stranger. He had friends from all walks of life. He was always laughing and joking around. He always had a smile on his face. He was one of the biggest rednecks, you could ever meet. He almost always had tight blue jeans on and a big belt buckle and boots and a hat. He was definitely the dare-devil type. He would try anything once. There will never be another Dusty!

Forever Free To Soar!

One time me and Dusty and Micheal was riding in Dusty's car on Turkey Creek. I forgot where we had been, but Dusty was flying in that car. I was in the backseat and Micheal was in the front passenger seat, and we both were scared. When we topped the main hill on Turkey Creek we were going so fast that the car came completely up off of the ground, then slammed back down. And the scariest part was that the only brakes on that car was the E-brake. He had to pull it everytime he needed to stop. But if I went back today to that night, I would be right in that car with Micheal and Dusty again!
